to Service & Leadership
Captain David Carson, founder of Cause & Effect, is a product of the inner-streets. Being awarded to the state at an early age, exposed to family alcoholism, physical abuse, and neglect, Carson turned to the street for refuge at the age of 13. Within a short amount of time, Carson moved into a ranking and authoritative position which led to his entanglement in a life of destruction, self-defeating habits, and unwarranted hardships.
A path of destruction combined with chemical abuse, immaturity, and poor decision-making skills. David spent seven years of his young adult years in the prison system. Despite his past misfortune and gang status, he experienced a renewal of his mind in 1999, which led him to see that life could be better.
Overcoming chemical abuse, abandoning criminal gang activity, and cutting ties with negative influences, Carson has enjoyed a healthy lifestyle and a newly developed passion to use his experience to touch and enrich the lives of others. In light of his newfound path, Carson has been able to establish a successful career as a firefighter and has become a positive influence in the lives of many youth and young fathers in the metro area.
Carson has been able to help others break free of a lifestyle perpetually entangled in the Criminal Justice System. He has gained respect and a strong connection with his neighborhood and surrounding community while maintaining his sobriety, integrity, and positive outlook on the possibilities that lie ahead.
